Putting content into context on Google+ with #hashtags

Of the 41 new features Google announced they were bringing to Google+ I would argue automatically adding hashtags is the most important and innovative.

With automatic hashtags I expect to see more emphasis being placed on research, structured content curation and network mapping both on and offline moving forward. Lazy hashtag hijacking is no longer an acceptable engagement strategy, you had better know your audience beyond what they're doing online. 

Below is an example of the awesomeness in action:

1. I went on a run yesterday and posted it to my Google+ running community.

2. I added the hashtag #runjournal which I use to document my running activity.

3. Google then scanned the image and added the #Map and #DIA hashtags.
